PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk has successfully received the PROPER 2025 award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) with a Gold ranking. This award is given as recognition of the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management.

The appreciation was handed over directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of the Environment and Forestry Management Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq at the PROPER Environmental Awards at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4/2026). The President Director of PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk, Christian Kartawijaya, explained that the company has contributed to waste reduction through various innovations.

“So at the Citeureup Factory, we received PROPER Gold because of this year’s activities, particularly successfully using RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) of 500-600 tonnes per day. That means 1,500-2,000 tonnes of waste that we eliminate at the Citeureup factory,” he stated to CNBC Indonesia.

Not only that, Indocement also utilises rice husk as an alternative fuel. According to Christian, the use of this alternative reduces carbon dioxide.

“Year by year, it keeps increasing. And we have replaced coal with alternative fuels. That is one of Indocement’s flagship programmes,” he explained.

It is known that Indocement implements innovations in Sustainable Operations Management and Improvement on the Hot Disc Reactor (HDR) Equipment as an Effort to Increase the Use of Alternative Fuels at Plant 11 of the Citeureup Factory. This step provides electricity energy savings of 1,165,000 Gigajoules.

Other innovations include IEF: Isolator Eco-Friendly, which reduces transportation and greenhouse gas emissions, namely a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3,970.3 kg CO₂, and the GREENGRAM-LITE (Green Grammature Lightening for Waste Minimisation) innovation, which has successfully reduced waste stockpiles by around 50.40 tonnes.

As information, the PROPER award is routinely held as an effort to increase companies’ compliance with environmental regulations. The award is given using several parameters. PROPER is a public disclosure programme for environmental assessment.

This programme is complementary or supplementary that can synergise with other compliance instruments. With this programme, efforts to improve environmental quality can be carried out more efficiently and effectively. The PROPER assessment criteria are divided into two categories: compliance and criteria for assessment beyond what is required in regulations (beyond compliance).

Compliance criteria are based on the company’s efforts in fulfilling several matters, including control of water pollution, maintenance of water sources, control of air pollution, management of B3 waste (hazardous and toxic materials), management of non-B3 waste, management of B3, control of land damage, and waste management. Meanwhile, beyond compliance criteria are more dynamic because they are adjusted to technological developments, the application of best environmental management practices, and global environmental issues.
