Action plans made at Satya Wacana

SALATIGA, Central Java: Hundreds of students and teachers of
the Satya Wacana Christian University gathered to plan more
actions yesterday to demonstrate their opposition to the
dismissal of scholar Arief Budiman.

The gathering took place in each of the eight schools of
learning without the usual yelling and name calling. The learning
and teaching activities also went on as usual because the
meetings were called during breaks.

The students and teachers seek reinstatement of Arief and the
dismissal of rector John JOI Ihalauw and the chief of the
university's foundation Haryono Semangun.

The protesters condemn the foundation's rejection of the
presidium established by churches to end the year-old conflict
within the university. (har)
