Acting Pati Regent Apologises After Misreading Pancasila Text During Independence Day Ceremony

Acting Pati Regent Risma Ardhi Chandra went viral after incorrectly reading the second principle of Pancasila during the 81st Independence Day ceremony. Chandra apologised for the incident.

“We would like to offer our apologies to the people of Pati Regency and all the people of the Republic of Indonesia. Once again, it was unintentional; the condition at that time was really not good, I was feeling unwell,” Chandra told reporters at Pati Town Square, as reported by detikJateng on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Chandra said the series of events welcoming Independence Day had been extremely packed, running late into the night. He said this had left him feeling unwell.

“The series of activities went on until late at night, so my concentration was really lacking. So once again, we apologise,” he explained.

Chandra said that on the morning before the independence ceremony, he was experiencing cold sweats. Nevertheless, he said he insisted on serving as the inspector of the independence ceremony.

“That morning my condition was already showing cold sweats, but because it was 17 August I had to be strong. However, it turned out that human physical limits cannot be overcome when the condition is like that, and in the end I blanked. That was beyond our prediction,” he explained.
