Acting Mayor of Madiun Brief in Speech After 10-Hour KPK Examination

Acting Mayor (Plt) of Madiun, Bagus Panuntun, was brief in his comments after being examined by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for approximately 10 hours on Monday (11/5). Bagus was questioned in his capacity as a witness in the alleged extortion case involving project fees, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, and other gratuities within the Madiun City Government. “Ask the investigators, friends. Sorry. Okay. Friends, ask the investigators,” Bagus said at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday (11/5) afternoon. As of this report, no information has been released by the KPK regarding the results of Bagus’s examination. This questioning is to complete the case file for the suspects: the inactive Mayor of Madiun, Maidi; Maidi’s trusted associate, Rochim Ruhdiyanto; and the Head of the Public Works Department (PUPR) of Madiun City, Thariq Megah. They have already been detained to undergo further investigation processes. The case implicating Maidi and his associates was uncovered by the KPK through a Handcatch Operation (OTT) conducted in January 2026. In that covert operation, the KPK found and seized cash evidence amounting to Rp550 million. From the OTT, the KPK also uncovered allegations of corruption in the form of demands for fees for issuing permits within the Madiun City Government to business actors such as hotels, minimarkets, and franchises. During the ongoing investigation, the KPK has searched many locations, including Maidi’s private residence, Thariq’s private residence, the Mayor’s Office, and several departmental offices in Madiun City. Numerous pieces of evidence related to the case, such as documents and cash, have been successfully seized.
