The National Police headquarters has spoken out regarding the appointment of AKBP Catur Setiawan, who is alleged to have a history of narcotics consumption, as acting chief of the Bima City police (Plh Kapolres Bima Kota).

Head of Public Information at the National Police’s Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the appointment was made by the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police through a thorough process involving extensive deliberation and in accordance with established procedures.

“Having weighed various considerations and followed the proper mechanisms, this appointment is temporary in nature — an acting daily executor,” he said during a press conference on Thursday (19 February).

He added that Catur’s appointment is only temporary until the National Police leadership determines a permanent replacement for the Bima City police chief.

“Following the alleged violations and subsequent actions taken by the NTB Regional Police, the Professional and Security Division, and the Criminal Investigation Agency, further developments will naturally be communicated by the NTB Regional Police,” he explained.

Catur had previously replaced former Bima City Police Chief AKBP Didik Kuncoro Putra, who has been named a suspect in a narcotics case.

When still holding the rank of AKP, Catur served as head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit at the Ternate police. On 4 May 2017, he tested positive for methamphetamine consumption after the North Maluku Regional Police’s Health Division conducted a urine test.

At the time, Catur received a disciplinary sanction from the North Maluku Regional Police Chief, Brigadier General Dwi Apriyanto. He was removed from his position but subsequently returned to service at another posting.
