Acting Bekasi Regent Reports 'Bekasi Masih Kusut' Social Media Account to Police

Acting Bekasi Regent Asep Surya Atmaja has formally reported the social media account ‘Bekasi Masih Kusut’ to investigators at the Bekasi Metro Police, after it was deemed to have posted content and spread false information detrimental to him as the regional head. ‘Yes, we as the legal team for the Acting Regent of Bekasi have filed a report against the TikTok social media account named Bekasi Masih Kusut with the police,’ said the authorised attorney for Asep Surya Atmaja, Sarino, in Cikarang on Wednesday, 21 May 2026. Sarino said the report was made on behalf of the Acting Regent Asep Surya Atmaja in relation to alleged dissemination of false information or hoaxes across several social media networks. He explained the report was made to pursue accounts believed to spread false news or information whose source or veracity is unclear. ‘Indeed, the report concerns social media accounts that publish hoaxes to be acted upon,’ he said. However, Sarino emphasised that the reporting move, in principle, is not necessarily aimed at criminal prosecution but focuses on seeking clarification of information deemed lacking in basis. ‘Principally, the Acting Regent does not directly steer it towards criminal cases, but the substance is that this is hoax news whose source and truth are unknown,’ he said. Sarino also clarified that Aliansi BBM is not the main reporting party but acts as the acting regent’s legal representative. ‘Aliansi BBM acts as the legal team, as his lawyers,’ he said. He went on to note that the formal report originated from Asep Surya Atmaja, who had provided a letter of empowerment together with a chronology of events to the legal team. ‘The Acting Regent gave the power of attorney, including the chronology, and then we reported it,’ he said. Meanwhile, Bekasi Metro Police Chief Commissioner of Police Sumarni, as of this report, had not provided detailed comments regarding the report. ‘Under investigation,’ he replied briefly. (ant)
