Acquitted, Amsal Sitepu Calls It Justice for Creative Workers

Videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu, or Amsal Sitepu, has been declared not guilty by the panel of judges at the Corruption Court at the Medan District Court in North Sumatra. In response, he stated that the verdict represents justice for creative workers.

“This is an important momentum for players in the creative industry to continue creating. This is a form of justice, not just for me, but also for all creative workers,” said Amsal after attending the verdict hearing in North Sumatra on Wednesday (1/4).

He expressed thanks that the judges examined the case. He also appreciated the support from many parties during his legal process. Amsal Sitepu’s case received attention from President Prabowo Subianto and the House of Representatives’ Commission III.

“I also convey my highest appreciation to the Medan District Court. Today, justice has occurred here,” said Amsal Sitepu.

The panel of judges, chaired by Yusafrihardi Girsang, read out the verdict. In the verdict, the panel stated that the defendant Amsal Sitepu was not proven legally and convincingly to have committed the criminal act of corruption in the village profile video production project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.

“Imposing a not guilty verdict on the defendant because it is not proven that he committed the criminal act of corruption,” said Judge Yusafrihardi.

Amsal Sitepu was charged by the Karo District Prosecutor’s public prosecutor (JPU) with mark-up in the production of village profile videos in Karo Regency. The indictment also revealed that creative ideas were valued at Rp0.
