Acquitted Amsal Sitepu Attends Commission III Meeting and Karo Chief Prosecutor at DPR

Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a meeting with the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari), Dante Rajagukguk, regarding the corruption case involving the production of village profile videos in Karo Regency, with former defendant Amsal Christy Sitepu also attending in person.

The meeting took place in the Commission III meeting room at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026). Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman directly led the meeting.

Amsal was seen wearing a white shirt and was accompanied by his wife. Also present were the public prosecutors (JPU) from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutorial Commission at the meeting.

Habiburokhman stated that the public opinion hearing (RDPU) is part of the DPR’s oversight function as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution.

“The DPR has oversight authority, including conducting RDPUs based on requests from the public who feel there is injustice,” said Habiburokhman.

He explained that the series of RDPUs conducted, including those related to Amsal Sitepu’s case previously, do not constitute intervention in the ongoing legal process. He stated that they only want to ensure there are no violations in handling the case.

“The series of RDPUs that we often conduct, including the RDPU on Brother Amsal Christy Sitepu’s case on 30 March 2026, do not constitute intervention because we do not enter into the ongoing criminal proceedings at all,” he clarified.

“However, we want to ensure that there are no violations in the performance of duties by law enforcement officials. Personally, I, Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, received direct instructions from my leader, Mr Prabowo Subianto, to ensure that ordinary people can smile and receive justice,” he added.

Amsal Sitepu was previously demanded a two-year prison sentence by prosecutors in the corruption case involving village profile videos in Karo Regency. The judge then declared Amsal not guilty and issued an acquittal verdict.
