Acid Sprayer Andrie Yunus Claims to Have Been Splashed: It Felt Hot and Itchy

JAKARTA - Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko claimed to have been splashed while pouring acid on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (12/3/2026). Edi Sudarko felt hot and itchy after being hit by the acid splash. “After being hit, it felt hot and itchy,” said Edi when examined as the defendant in the trial at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). As a result of the acid splash, Edi claimed to have been injured on his face and chest. When Edi was splashed with the acid, Budhi Hariyanto Widhi then provided mineral water to rinse off the liquid. “At that time, the defendant Budhi gave mineral water to rinse off the liquid,” said Edi. Previously, four Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers were charged with pouring acid on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus in the central Jakarta area. The motive was that they felt offended by Andrie Yunus for carrying out an action at the Fairmont Jakarta hotel on 16 March 2025. “The defendants considered that Mr Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI institution and even trampled on the TNI institution,” said Military Auditor Lieutenant Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) TNI Muhammad Iswadi in the trial at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta, on Wednesday.
