Jakarta—Dozens of CCTV cameras have been seized by police authorities in connection with the investigation of an acid attack carried out by unknown assailants against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, a human rights organisation.

Iman Imanuddin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metro Police, stated that the liquid sprayed onto the victim’s face and body is suspected to be a strong acidic chemical.

“The victim, Andrie Yunus, is believed to have been attacked by unknown perpetrators through the spraying of a liquid suspected to be a strong acidic chemical substance,” he said on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The attack, which occurred on Jalan Salemba in Senen, Central Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026 at approximately 23:30 Western Indonesian Time, is now being handled by a joint team comprising the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Police, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police, and the National Police Criminal Investigation Directorate.

The joint team’s investigation has involved analysis of CCTV footage and communication channels along the location related to the incident.

At least 86 CCTV points have been obtained from various sources along the suspected route taken by the perpetrators, comprising 7 cameras from the electronic traffic enforcement system, 27 from the Communications and Information Office, 8 from the Transportation Agency, and 44 from residential houses and office buildings.

“From the 86 CCTV points we have analysed, there are 2,610 video images with a total duration of 10,320 minutes,” he said.

Imanuddin added that the joint team is currently conducting digital analysis of all CCTV recordings obtained.

“We require a considerable amount of time in conducting digital analysis of the video recordings available along the route travelled by the perpetrators,” he said.

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has directed a thorough investigation of the suspected acid attack against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted in a professional and transparent manner, utilising scientific investigation methods.

“Regarding the development of the activist attack, I have received direct instruction from the President to conduct a thorough investigation in a professional and transparent manner,” Sigit said whilst inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.

He explained that the investigation process is being conducted using a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure that every stage of case handling is carried out objectively and based on evidence.
