The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has uncovered findings related to the attempted murder case involving an acid attack on Kontras deputy coordinator Andrie Yunus. TAUD representative Fadhil Alfathan stated that the incident was not merely an ordinary criminal act but a major operation that was structured, systematic, and involved dozens of perpetrators.

Fadhil revealed that the number of identified perpetrators by the independent investigation team far exceeds the data released by the police or TNI’s Puspom.

“TAUD’s independent investigation has identified dozens of perpetrators strongly suspected of coordinating with each other throughout the night of the incident. This number is far greater than the four perpetrators mentioned by the police or Puspom TNI,” Fadhil said in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3).

Based on CCTV recordings around the YLBHI office, Fadhil said the team found strong indications of civilian involvement in the action. One of the suspected perpetrators who tailed the victim at the crime scene was observed at the YLBHI area several hours before the attack.

“The suspected perpetrator we refer to as OTK 3 was seen around YLBHI before the incident wearing a green online motorcycle taxi jacket. This indicates suspicions of civilian background involvement in this attempted murder,” Fadhil explained.

Fadhil stated that the findings of dozens of suspected perpetrators coordinating with each other strengthen the suspicion that the attack on Andrie Yunus was driven by parties with significant authority. He assessed that this operation was highly trained and organised.

“We urge the police not to stop at the field actors alone. The investigation must continue to find the intellectual actors responsible and the parties providing operational support to the perpetrators,” he emphasised.

It is known that the TNI stated that four of its members were involved in the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus. The four soldiers have been detained at Pomdam Jaya since Wednesday morning (18/03) and designated as suspects.

TNI’s Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto explained that the four TNI soldiers are members of the Military Police of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). They come from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches. Three of the four suspects hold officer ranks.

“So Captain NDB, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant ES. During the investigation, we will work as maximally as possible with the hope that we can carry it out as quickly as possible in a professional manner,” Yusri said.

Yusri stated that the attack case against Andrie Yunus will be handled by the TNI through military court mechanisms. He said the decision complies with Law No. 3 of 2025 on the TNI.

The law states that criminal acts involving TNI members are resolved through military courts. Yusri assured that this case will be handled professionally and transparently.

“So far, military trials have always been open; there is no such thing as closed trials,” he said.

Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) urges President Prabowo Subianto to prove his statement regarding the thorough investigation of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.
