Jakarta — Metro Jaya Police have stated that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), is believed to have been carried out by two individuals.

“According to initial information, two people are suspected, but we are still investigating this matter. Our priority now is the victim’s recovery,” said Metro Jaya Police Communications Division Head, Police Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Budi noted that the police are currently focusing on medical treatment for the victim, as the victim’s current condition has not yet allowed him to provide extensive statements to the police.

“Because during the acid attack, there were burns on the hands, body, and face,” he said.

“Metro Jaya Police, including the Directorate of General Crimes and Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort, will work together to solve this case,” he said.

Budi added that the police have taken statements from several witnesses, processed physical evidence and conducted a crime scene investigation.

Earlier, KontraS urged law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate those responsible for the acid attack on Andrie Yunus in central Jakarta.

“This incident is an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” said Dimas in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that Andrie Yunus was attacked by unknown individuals who threw acid on him, causing wounds to his hands and legs as well as vision impairment.
