Acid Attack Case on Andrie Yunus: Police Reveal Perpetrators Had Been Stalking Him from the Start
Police have begun unravelling the sequence of events in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus. From the investigation results, authorities have found strong indications that the act was carried out in a planned manner. The perpetrators are suspected of stalking the victim from the beginning until the location of the incident.
Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, revealed that the alleged assault occurred on 12 March 2026. To date, the victim is still undergoing intensive treatment due to the hazardous liquid thrown by the perpetrator.
“The victim is currently still receiving treatment. We hope for a swift recovery,” Imanuddin stated during a press conference on Wednesday (18/3).
Based on CCTV recordings obtained by the police, the victim was at the YLBHI office around 19:00 WIB to attend a podcast event.
After leaving the location, the victim is suspected to have been stalked by an unidentified person who was part of the perpetrator group.
Police then traced the perpetrators’ movements through several points. When the victim was refuelling at a petrol station, two individuals suspected to be the executors were captured on camera with matching clothing and vehicles up to the crime scene (TKP).
“Two individuals riding together, whom we suspect as the executors, are visible. There is consistency in the clothing and vehicles used,” said Imanuddin.
At the incident location, the crucial moment was clearly recorded. One perpetrator, who was a pillion passenger, is seen throwing the liquid towards the victim, while another vehicle is suspected to have been monitoring the situation.
After carrying out the act, the two motorbikes split up to cover their tracks.
During their escape, police found indications that the hazardous liquid had splashed onto the perpetrators’ bodies. This is evident from recordings on Jalan Diponegoro, where the two suspected perpetrators stopped and attempted to clean themselves using mineral water.
The investigation also points to the perpetrators’ activities before the incident. Police found recordings showing the perpetrators had been in the area since the afternoon. One executor was even captured on camera without a helmet, revealing part of his face.
