Police have escalated the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Komisi untuk Orang Hilang dan Korban Tindak Kekerasan), to investigation status.

“It has been escalated (to investigation),” said AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, Head of Criminal Investigation at Central Jakarta Metro Police, when confirmed on Sunday (15 March).

In this case, police have identified indications of criminal conduct related to Article 467 subsection 2 and Article 468 subsection 1 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code.

Roby stated that his team is continuing the investigation, including identifying the perpetrators of the acid attack.

“(The perpetrators) are still being identified by us,” he said.

Previously, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Missing and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening (12 March).

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya reported that the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), around 23:00 Western Indonesian Time.

“He suffered an acid attack by Unknown Persons (OTK) resulting in serious injuries across his body, particularly affecting both hands, face, chest, and eye area,” Dimas stated in a written statement on Friday (13 March).

Dimas also disclosed details of the suspected perpetrators. The first suspect wore a white-and-blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be jeans, and a black helmet.

The second perpetrator, identified as a passenger, wore a black face covering or mask resembling a ‘buff’ that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers that were rolled up short and believed to be made of denim.
