Acid Attack Case: Commission I Emphasises Transparent Investigation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the DPR RI’s Commission I, Oleh Soleh, has emphasised the importance of a transparent and accountable investigation into the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, allegedly involving rogue TNI personnel.
According to him, openness in the legal process is the “key” to maintaining public trust while ensuring no parties are protected in handling the case.
“We urge the TNI to thoroughly investigate this case in a transparent and accountable manner. There must be no cover-ups. Whoever is involved must be dealt with firmly without favouritism,” said Oleh Soleh in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He stressed that violence against activists constitutes a serious violation of law and democratic principles, so its handling must be conducted professionally and openly.
“We strongly condemn the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. This action cannot be justified under any circumstances, especially if it involves rogue state apparatus,” he stated.
Oleh Soleh assessed that transparency in case disclosure is not only important for delivering justice to the victim but also as a form of institutional accountability to the public.
He added that a clear and open legal process will prevent speculation from arising and maintain the TNI’s credibility as a state institution.
Furthermore, he encouraged that all involved parties be processed according to applicable law and given maximum punishment to provide a deterrent effect.
According to him, this case must also serve as a momentum for internal evaluation by the TNI to strengthen oversight of its members to prevent abuse of authority.
Commission I hopes that a transparent and accountable investigation can accelerate the resolution of the case and ensure justice for the victim, while maintaining public trust in law enforcement in Indonesia.
