Acid Attack Case Against Andrie Yunus Transferred from Bareskrim to Polda Metro

Jakarta, Kompas.com - Polda Metro Jaya has received the transfer of the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, which was initially reported to Bareskrim Polri. The report was previously submitted to Polri headquarters by the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD). “It has been transferred (from Bareskrim Polri),” said Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters at Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Friday (8/5/2026). “We want to ask what has been done and what the follow-up plans are; later we will request it from the investigators,” Budi added. Separately, Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, stated that the transfer was made because the location, time of the incident, and object of the case were deemed the same as a previous report handled by Polda Metro Jaya. He also emphasised that handling by Polda Metro Jaya would be more effective since they had previously managed a similar case. “If we at Bareskrim were like a petrol station, we would start from scratch. Meanwhile, there, evidence has already been gathered, and witness statements have been taken,” he explained at Bareskrim Polri. Meanwhile, Andrie’s legal counsel, Jane Rosalina, said that her side had undergone examination as witnesses on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Witnesses from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) were questioned with 20 queries regarding the incident that befell Andrie on 12 March 2026. “The questions were about the chronology of the acid attack on Andrie, the number of perpetrators involved in the acid attack, the role of each perpetrator, and the perpetrators’ affiliations,” Jane explained when contacted via WhatsApp message. In addition, the report will utilise Article 600, Article 601, and Article 602 of the New Criminal Code, as well as Law Number 1 of 2023 on Special Criminal Acts, particularly related to terrorism offences. “This concerns attempted premeditated murder. And also responding to what Mr Prabowo said previously, that the action against Andrie is part of a terrorism act, so we are also using the terrorism criminal article construction,” said KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya at Bareskrim Polri on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Previously reported, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus was doused with acid by unidentified persons (OTK) on Thursday night (12/3/2026).
