Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Association of Carbon Emission Experts Indonesia (ACEXI) has launched an emissions-reduction partnership programme designed to build a strong, transparent climate-action ecosystem and accelerate governance of Indonesia’s Carbon Economic Value (NEK) through cross-sector collaboration.

ACEXI Chairman Lastyo Kuntoaji Lukito said the initiative, called COPPER-ACE (Collaborative Partnership Program for Emission Reduction and Advancement of Climate Ecosystems), underscored that the urgent task of reducing carbon emissions could no longer be tackled by organisations working in isolation.

“COPPER-ACE is an integrated platform that brings together efforts to strengthen the ecosystem and improve human-resource and institutional capacity,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Lukito said the initiative was the association’s practical response to the need to create an effective ecosystem for emissions reduction.

“We want to ensure that Indonesia’s climate solutions are sustainable and equitable by strengthening the capacity of domestic carbon experts,” he said.

At the same event, Senior Adviser to the Forestry Minister Edo Mahendra said ACEXI’s initiative was expected to act like copper, conducting collaboration among stakeholders to increase Carbon Economic Value.

“I hope this can be a moment for all of us to work more closely together and bring greater benefits to Indonesia,” he said.

Edo said he hoped the initiative would make a direct contribution through capacity-building, knowledge-sharing, and the development of standards and best practices, enabling communities to become active participants in carbon projects, particularly those related to social forestry.

IDX Development Director Iding Pardi said IDXCarbon was ready to support and work with the association to strengthen Indonesia’s carbon-market ecosystem.

“We hope COPPER-ACE can serve as a platform that brings expertise closer to industry needs, connects project developers with prospective partners, and links supply with demand. We also want to ensure that the economic benefits of Indonesia’s vast carbon potential are enjoyed as much as possible at home,” he added.

Iding said that since its launch on 26 September 2023, IDXCarbon had focused not only on providing trading infrastructure but also on actively developing the market and ecosystem to encourage more parties to participate in Indonesia’s carbon market.

At the initiative’s launch, several companies and associations signed memoranda of understanding and letters of intent with ACEXI, indicating their readiness or interest in becoming partners.

ACEXI will soon help map its partners’ areas of focus to identify opportunities for joint activities that can accelerate the creation of a supportive ecosystem for climate action and Carbon Economic Value governance.
