ACeS, Tomen sign accord

JAKARTA (JP): PT Asia Cellular Satellite System (ACeS), a Jakarta-based telecommunications firm, has signed an agreement with a Japanese firm, Tomen, to provide ACeS' service in Japan.

ACeS, owned equally by PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) of Indonesia, Philippines Long Distance Telephone Co. of the Philippines and Jasmine International Public Co. Ltd. of Thailand, will introduce a region-wide cellular mobile telecommunications system in 1998 by operating a geo-stationary satellite called Garuda.

The satellite's coverage will extend to India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, South Korea, southern Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indochina and the Southeast Asian countries.

PSN's spokesman, Riska, said here yesterday that PSN, as service provider in Indonesia, had also signed similar agreements with PT Komselindo and PT Satelindo, two cellular network providers.

With this facility, there will be no gaps in the cellular telecommunication service provided by Satelindo and Komselindo. (icn)
