Acer Launches Predator Atlas 8 as First Handheld Gaming PC with Intel Arc G3
Acer has officially launched its latest handheld gaming device, the Predator Atlas 8. The device is among the first to utilise Intel’s Arc G3 Series, a new chip designed specifically for handheld gaming consoles. It comes in two variants: one with the Intel Arc G3 chip and a more powerful version featuring the Arc G3 Extreme. Both models are equipped with a 14-core CPU and 12 MB Intel Smart Cache, with clock speeds of 4.6 GHz for the Arc G3 and 4.7 GHz for the Extreme variant. Despite differing GPU core counts, both support Intel XeSS 3 technology, which uses artificial intelligence to boost frame rates through upscaling and frame generation. Additionally, the Arc G3 Series incorporates an AI processing unit (NPU) with 46 Platform TOPS (PTOPS) for enhanced AI tasks. The handheld features an 8-inch IPS touchscreen with WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), a 120 Hz refresh rate, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), 500 nits brightness, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and Corning DXC anti-glare coating. Gaming controls include Hall Effect triggers with hair-trigger stop, two rear buttons, and a fingerprint sensor on the power button. The joysticks use traditional carbon film instead of Hall Effect or TMR to avoid drifting issues. Connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 4 ports offering up to 40 Gbps bandwidth, higher than standard USB 4.
