Aceh's PEMA Develops 2,000-Tonne Capacity Lightweight Steel Plant in Ladong Industrial Zone
The Aceh Ladong Industrial Estate is being prepared as a centre of growth for a new, productive industry.
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) — Regional owned enterprise PT Pembangunan Aceh (PEMA) has begun developing and building a light steel factory with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes at the Aceh Industrial Estate (KIA) in Ladong, Aceh Besar Regency, in order to realise investment in the construction sector and drive Aceh’s economic growth.
“We are preparing the Aceh Ladong Industrial Estate to become a centre of growth for a new industry that is productive, modern and competitive,” said PT PEMA Director Mawardi Nur in Banda Aceh on Wednesday.
Mawardi said the presence of the industrial estate is expected to mark the initial milestone in forming an integrated construction cluster capable of raising the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in Aceh.
The development is being carried out through cooperation between PT PEMA and PT Indo Surya Gavalum (ISG) Group via PT Aceh Global Steel. The step is expected not only to build production facilities, but also to encourage technology transfer, improve human resource competence and strengthen local industrial capacity.
Construction of the light steel factory occupies a five-hectare site at KIA Ladong and has a production capacity of up to 2,000 tonnes of light steel per month to meet the needs of the market in Aceh and surrounding areas.
Mawardi said the construction of the light steel factory forms part of the company’s long-term strategy to develop the construction industry in Aceh and create added value for the regional economy.
“This factory serves as the foundation of Aceh’s construction industry to meet regional needs, reduce dependence on supplies from outside Aceh, and at the same time attract follow-on investment to the province,” he said.
Looking ahead, Mawardi said, the estate is planned to grow into four mutually integrated light steel factory clusters, thereby strengthening the national construction material supply chain.
Beyond driving industrial growth, the development is projected to have a wide economic impact through the absorption of local labour, the growth of supporting businesses and increased economic activity among communities surrounding the industrial estate.
Through the development of the industrial estate, he continued, PT PEMA is committed to continuing to open up opportunities for collaboration with investors, business players, educational institutions and other strategic partners to jointly build a competitive industrial ecosystem.
“This development also expands employment opportunities, strengthens the construction sector and accelerates Aceh’s economic transformation towards a region that is more advanced, self-reliant and competitive,” he said.
He stressed that every investment brought in must genuinely deliver tangible benefits to the people of Aceh. The industry opens new jobs for Aceh’s sons and daughters, mobilises supporting businesses and services, and creates a sustainable multiplier effect for the regional economy.
