Aceh's great youth potential

A gathering with youths in Aceh under the Indonesian Youth and
Children's Friendship Program for Aceh in April showed local
teens' great potential in many fields.

Some of the teenagers excelled in painting, poetry and
English, while one student was even a regency champion of the
Mathematics Olympiad. They also had a great enthusiasm for
transforming Aceh into a better region in the future.

Sadly, the government, especially the regional administration,
it seem is less responsive to the local human resource needs in
Aceh. It is instead more preoccupied by the province's corruption
cases and post-tsunami reconstruction.

The potential of Aceh's youth should remain the focus of
government attention because these youths will later rebuild
their regions. Meanwhile, the government has drawn up no special
schemes for handling youth in Aceh.
