Acehnese held on hashish charges

BATAM, Riau Islands: Batam Police arrested two Acehnese women on Friday for carrying two bags containing a total of 5 kilograms of dried hashish.

Adj. Comr. H. Manurung, the chief of the Barelang Police's Sekupang Port security unit, said that the two had been arrested at Sekupang Port after they alighting from a ferry carrying them from Dumai in Riau province to Batam, Riau Islands province.

During the arrest, police seized 3 kilograms of dried hashish from Sapiah Gade, 54, and another 2 kilograms from Samiah, 50. Both women, who said that they were from the Sigli area in Aceh, admitted that the hashish was to be sold to their clients in Batam. -- JP
