Aceh Tamiang, Aceh (ANTARA) - Flood survivors in Babo Village, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh, have received assistance in the form of 25 permanent housing units (huntap) from the Caritas Foundation of the Catholic Church to meet the needs of housing damaged by the disaster. “From the Caritas Foundation, 50 units will be provided for Babo 25 units and Lubuk Idup 25 units,” said Babo Village Head Khairi Ramadhan to ANTARA in Aceh Tamiang on Friday. He explained that the number of residents’ houses in Babo Village damaged by the flood disaster on 26 November 2025 reached around 400 units. Currently, he said, the government has built 100 temporary housing units as well as dozens of units from private parties such as Dedikasi Foundation, Vespa Community, and WIS. Khairi stated that further housing assistance will be added from the Caritas Foundation, which will greatly help the residents’ needs to obtain decent housing. He explained that a meeting with the Caritas Foundation in Medan, North Sumatra, to coordinate regarding the housing assistance had been conducted. Subsequently, the foundation’s representatives will come to Aceh Tamiang, planned for 25 March, to meet with the government. Khairi said that in the meeting with the foundation, he had also emphasised the importance of ensuring that the assistance truly targets residents who do not yet have any housing at all. “There must be a commitment on how to have a statement letter from each recipient of the assistance so that they no longer receive permanent housing assistance from the government or other private parties,” he said. He admitted that he does not want the recipient residents of the subsequent housing assistance to demand further aid from the government, so that all flood-affected residents can obtain housing.
