Aceh residents queue in droves at petrol stations, buying fuel in jerrycans
A number of residents in Aceh crowded petrol stations to buy fuel, carrying jerrycans of varying sizes. Video of the queue in Aceh Tengah went viral on social media, DetikSumut reported on Friday (6 March 2026). People went to SPBU and Pertashop carrying jerrycans of various sizes.
The queues were observed not only at SPBU but also at five SPBU in Banda Aceh; vehicles including motorcycles and cars formed lines that stretched onto the main roads, causing minor traffic congestion.
Similar queues were reported in Bener Meriah as well.
Mustafa Kamal, Head of Communications for Aceh Tengah, said that according to Pertamina, fuel stocks in Aceh Tengah are secure. A ship was docked today to meet Eid al-Fitr demand.
“For the distribution area including the Lhokseumawe depot and Aceh Tengah, stock at the depot currently stands at Pertamax 1.3 million litres, Pertalite 4.3 million litres and diesel 2.3 million litres,” Mustafa said.
“Mustafa urged the public not to panic buy. Fuel will be supplied to the Gayo region daily.”
