Aceh PRR: Kutablang Bireuen Bridge Construction Completed and Undergoing Testing
The Aceh Regional Post of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (PRR) Sumatra has announced that the permanent construction of the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang, Bireuen Regency, Aceh, was completed on schedule and has undergone functional testing today.
“Alhamdulillah, thanks to perseverance and discipline, the Kutablang Bridge has finally been completed on time,” said the Head of the Aceh Regional Post of the PRR Task Force, Safrizal ZA, in Banda Aceh on Sunday.
Today, the bridge, constructed by the Ministry of Public Works (PU), underwent its first open traffic trial conducted by elements of the ministry alongside the Bireuen Regency Government. On Sunday, 20 September 2026, the bridge was officially opened to the public by the Ministry of Public Works, Safrizal added.
Safrizal stated that the construction contract for the bridge amounted to Rp107.5 billion, while the total budget allocation for emergency handling and infrastructure packages in the area is Rp251 billion. This budget covers a comprehensive range of works, including the installation and periodic maintenance of Bailey bridges, the construction of the bridge’s main structure using steel girders, the implementation of the incremental launching technology method, and the pouring of concrete parapet walls on both sides of the bridge.
In the initial plan, the bridge was scheduled for completion by late July 2026. However, construction was temporarily halted due to the transition from the emergency response phase to the reconstruction phase. A subsequent adjustment of work mechanisms took nearly one month before activities could resume.
With the completion of the Kutablang Bridge, only one more bridge under national authority remains ongoing: the permanent Teupin Mane bridge on the Bireuen-Takengon national route, which is expected to be finished this coming December. Meanwhile, the steel truss Pante Lhong bridge, being built to connect the Peusangan and Siblah Krueng districts, falls under the authority of the Bireuen Regency but is also funded by the central government.
“Three other steel truss bridges will also be constructed in 2027 by the central government following proposals from the Bireuen Regency Government,” Safrizal noted.
As background, the hydrometeorological disasters that struck Aceh in late November 2025 destroyed 12 steel truss bridges along the Krueng Peusangan river within the Bireuen Regency administrative area, including two national bridges: Krueng Tingkeum and Teupin Mane.
