JAKARTA (JP): A private consortium is to upgrade Aceh Hotel,
the oldest hotel in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh, into a four-
star hotel.
An agreement for the hotel refurbishment, with an investment
of US$8.6 million, was signed in Banda Aceh over the weekend by
Accor Asia Pacific, which will manage the hotel, PT Ateiler Enam
Bandung, which designed the property, and the hotel owner PT Alam
Ujung Bukit Perkasa, whose commissioners included State Minister
of Food Ibrahim Hasan, A.R. Ramly, Ibrahim Risyad and Anwar
Johan.
Aceh's Governor Aceh Syamsuddin Mahmud, who supported the
refurbishment project, said that the hotel was expected to draw
more tourists to the province, Antara reported.
The hotel, built in 1922, will have four stories and 100
rooms. Occupying a 9,230 square-meter plot, the hotel is
scheduled to reopen next year.
There are currently 172 accommodation facilities in Aceh with
2,755 rooms. (icn)
