Aceh inmates get reduced sentences

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Over 1,700 inmates in Aceh, including 1,321
members of the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM), received
sentence reductions ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday.

The reductions ranged from 15 days to one month, according to
the head of the local Justice and Human Rights Office, Darwin.

Aceh has 2,837 inmates occupying 19 prisons across the
province. The majority of GAM members were sent to jail within
the last year, since the launch of the integrated operation in
May 2003 by the Indonesian Military (TNI). -- Antara
