Aceh Government Prioritises Medical Care for KMP Aceh Hebat Explosion Victims
The Aceh Government has ensured that victims of the explosion on the passenger motor vessel (KMP) Aceh Hebat 2 will receive the best possible healthcare and priority treatment. Government spokesperson Nurlis Effendi stated in Banda Aceh on Saturday that the safety and recovery of the victims is the current top priority, and all relevant parties have been instructed to provide optimal services.
An explosion occurred in the engine room of the ferry KMP Aceh Hebat 2, which serves the Banda Aceh - Sabang route, while it was docked at Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh on Friday (12/6). The incident resulted in 15 people suffering burns, including 14 students from the Malahayati Maritime Polytechnic and one crew member of the KMP Aceh Hebat 2. All are currently receiving medical treatment at the Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital in Banda Aceh.
All relevant Aceh Government Work Units (SKPA) have been instructed to coordinate intensively with the hospital, the ship operator, and port authorities to ensure the victims receive optimal medical care until their recovery is complete. The Aceh Government expressed deep concern over the incident and continues to monitor the handling of the victims.
“On behalf of the Aceh Government, we express our concern and sorrow over the tragedy that befell the Malahayati Maritime Polytechnic cadets and the ship’s crew,” Nurlis Effendi said. The findings of the investigation are expected to serve as a basis for strengthening safety standards and operational procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Aceh Government supports the investigation process being carried out by the authorities, emphasising that the cause of the incident must be clearly identified so that appropriate corrective and mitigation measures can be taken.
