“The existing temporary shelters are estimated by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to be sufficient to accommodate evacuees currently in tents across Aceh Tamiang, Central Aceh, and East Aceh,” Karnavian said on Tuesday after attending a limited meeting at the Defense Ministry.

He explained that the government has been working to provide proper housing for disaster victims in Aceh, including both permanent and temporary shelters, through various agencies and ministries, including the BNPB.

Although the construction of temporary shelters is considered largely adequate, Karnavian acknowledged that several locations had previously not been covered.

“In North Aceh, there is a village called Bukit Linteng in Langkahan district that had not yet received temporary shelters. However, the Public Works Ministry has now begun construction and has pledged completion by 11:00 p.m. on March 19,” he said.

Karnavian urged the provincial government and the BNPB to accelerate the construction process to ensure that all evacuees in the area can access proper housing.

“They must move in by the evening of March 23, or by the morning of March 24 at the latest,” he added.
