Aceh Extends Transition Status for Recovery from 2025 Flash Floods and Landslides
The Aceh government has extended the transitional emergency status towards post-disaster recovery from the ecological flash floods and landslides that occurred in late November 2025. The extension of this transitional status towards Aceh’s recovery is in effect for 90 days, starting from 28 April until 30 July 2026. This decision was taken as the emergency response period ends, as a step to speed up the rehabilitation and reconstruction process in the disaster-affected regions. “We are establishing the extension of the transitional emergency status to disaster recovery for Aceh’s hydrometeorological disaster for 90 days, starting from 28 April until 30 July 2026,” said Deputy Governor of Aceh, Fadhlullah, after a meeting with Forkopimda on Tuesday (28/4) night. Fadhlullah also urged all Aceh Regional Work Units (SKPA) and stakeholders to immediately implement six priority steps. The first priority is to complete the emergency handling of infrastructure, such as repairing roads, bridges, rivers, and other public facilities. This handling covers the authority of the central government, province, as well as regencies/cities. The next step is to accelerate the construction of temporary housing (huntara), logistics distribution, and fulfilment of basic needs for disaster victims, including access to electricity and clean water facilities. The Aceh government also emphasised the importance of social protection guarantees for the affected community and evacuees. In addition, the process of providing land for permanent housing construction (huntap) is requested to be completed immediately so that resident relocation can proceed as planned. On the other hand, local governments are asked to strengthen mitigation, preparedness, and anticipation of potential follow-up disasters. “Prepare as best as possible the implementation stages of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction, harmonisation and synchronisation of each party’s authority, and ensure sustainable funding,” said Fadhlullah.
