Aceh Covid-19 Sink Corruption: Two Contractors Face Three-Year Prison Demands
Public Prosecutor Maimunah presented the sentencing demands during a hearing at the Corruption Court in the Banda Aceh District Court on Monday (15/6/2026). The trial was presided over by Chief Judge M. Jamil, accompanied by panel judges R. Deddy Haryanto and Anda Ariansyah. In the indictment, the prosecution stated that the two defendants, who were contractors for the procurement of sinks for senior and vocational high schools under the Aceh Education Agency for the 2020 fiscal year, were legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing corruption. Beyond the prison sentence, the prosecutor also demanded that both defendants pay fines and restitution for state losses. The prosecution explained that the restitution amount of Rp411 million was offset against funds already handed over by the two defendants and other parties in the same case (separate case files), totalling more than Rp6 billion. Based on trial facts, Wiki Noviandi and Iqbal worked on 20 direct procurement packages for handwashing and sanitation facilities between July and December 2020. The project was financed through Covid-19 refocusing funds at the Aceh Education Agency. However, the procurement was found not to have followed applicable government goods and services procurement procedures. For these actions, the prosecution charged both defendants under Article 603 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Corruption. In response to the demands, both defendants and their legal counsel stated they would submit a defence plea. The panel of judges decided to adjourn the trial and will resume on Monday, 22 June 2026, with the agenda of hearing the defence statements from the defendants.
