Meulaboh – The Aceh provincial government is targeting thousands of victims of flash floods and landslides scattered across several districts and cities in Aceh to occupy temporary shelters (huntara) built by the government before Eid al-Fitr in 1447 Hijriah.

“Our target before Eid al-Fitr is for all residents to have moved into temporary shelters (huntara) and to have received housing allowance funds (DTH),” said Aceh Regional Secretary M Nasir, accompanied by West Aceh Regent Tarmizi in Meulaboh on Monday (9 March).

He said the government is targeting all evacuees to be able to leave emergency tents within the coming weeks during the holy month of Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.

The provincial administration is continuing to coordinate with a taskforce led by the Interior Minister to accelerate the relocation of evacuees from evacuation tents to huntara shelters, which are currently still under construction.

M Nasir stated that the current progress of huntara construction in Aceh province has reached 60 per cent. The government is also committed to completing this process before the transition period towards recovery ends on 29 April next year.

After the huntara phase is completed, he said, the government will proceed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction stage to build permanent housing for residents who have lost their homes.
