Aceh aid workers warned of attack
AUSTRALIA: Foreign aid workers helping tsunami relief efforts
in Indonesia could be the target of militant attacks, Australia
warned in a travel advisory Saturday.
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Australia had received
new intelligence its nationals could come under fire in Aceh and
Northern Sumatra.
"New information (has been) received by the government
concerning possible terrorist planning for attacks against
foreigners involved in relief efforts in Aceh or other areas of
northern Sumatra," Downer said in a statement.
The Australian government is working closely with Indonesian
authorities and other governments involved in the relief effort
to address this new threat information.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is on a
visit to Aceh, said there was no evidence that militants were
planning attacks on foreign relief workers but urged them to
notify authorities about their movements. -- AFP
