Accompanying Prabowo's Meeting with Putin, Bahlil Oversees Russian Energy Diplomacy
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. He stated that the government continues to oversee the implementation of various cooperation opportunities in the oil and gas sector to ensure they are realised promptly.
This is being done through exploring cooperation to guarantee national energy availability amid global market dynamics.
“This visit is an important momentum to ensure that the national energy supply remains secure and to strengthen national energy resilience,” he said in Moscow, Russia, as quoted from an official statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
The cooperation discussed includes oil refinery development, oil trade, and increased utilisation of energy technology. In addition, the government is opening opportunities for collaboration in the clean energy sector to support national energy diversification in the long term.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo emphasised that strengthening strategic relations with Russia is very necessary to face global geopolitical turbulence.
“Therefore, we feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face future situations, and especially if possible, we continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and energy,” said Prabowo during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, Moscow.
Meanwhile, the Russian side welcomed the increasingly close interactions between the two countries in various international forums. President Vladimir Putin assessed that Indonesia’s position as a BRICS member will open new opportunities for developing economic and energy cooperation.
“The two countries cooperate very closely, interact very well in various international forums. Indonesia has become a BRICS member; this opens new opportunities to develop our cooperation,” Putin stressed.
The government hopes that this cooperation will have a positive impact on national economic stability. The implementation of the meeting will continue to be monitored to ensure that energy availability remains stable for domestic needs.
