Accompanied by Public Works Minister, Prabowo Inaugurates Over 1,000 Km of Regional Roads
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated the construction of 1,151 kilometres of regional roads spread across 37 provinces throughout Indonesia. The inauguration took place in Sampang Regency, Madura, East Java, on Tuesday (23/6/2026). In his remarks, Prabowo stressed that road infrastructure development is a crucial part of accelerating economic growth while eliminating disparities between regions. “We are determined that no region should be left behind due to limited access. We must reduce logistics costs for all our people and our economy,” Prabowo said. According to him, regional roads play a strategic role as the lifeblood of the people’s economy. With good roads, agricultural, plantation, and fishery products, as well as various community goods, can move more quickly to markets, distribution centres, and industrial areas. Indonesia, with its vast and archipelagic territory, requires adequate roads to suppress the cost of distributing goods and services. Furthermore, he stated that road construction aligns with the government’s agenda to achieve food and energy self-sufficiency. “Food self-sufficiency is not only about seeds, fertiliser, and irrigation. Energy self-sufficiency is also not only about energy. All of that requires a smooth and good distribution network,” he said. He further expressed hope that regional governments would optimally utilise the infrastructure that has been built. Meanwhile, the central government will also continue to increase infrastructure development in the regions. “In the coming years, we will increase development in all regions, right down to the villages,” Prabowo said. On the same occasion, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the 2025 Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads has been realised along 1,151 kilometres in 37 provinces. Only DKI Jakarta Province did not submit a proposal for the programme. Dody said the regional roads were supported by a state budget investment of Rp 5.41 trillion, focused on improving connectivity between production areas, markets, national roads, residential areas, and public service centres. “One concrete example is the Kedundung - Bringkuning road section, which is 1.5 km long with a road width of 7 metres, with a contract value of Rp 14 billion,” Dody said. Dody also stated that regional development is carried out to support community mobility and economic activity, in line with the President’s directive that regional roads must be built to allow vehicles to pass each other simultaneously.
