Accompanied by Bahlil and Cabinet Secretary Teddy, Prabowo Departs for US to Meet Trump
Jakarta, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto has embarked on a working visit to Washington DC, United States.
The Head of State and a limited entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday, 16 February 2026.
During the visit to the United States, President Prabowo is accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss the strengthening of Indonesia-US relations and strategic cooperation across various sectors.
The visit forms part of Indonesia’s active diplomatic efforts to strengthen its national position amid global geopolitical dynamics.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto summoned a number of economic ministers to his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, on Sunday afternoon, to discuss Indonesia’s strategic direction in approaching economic negotiations with the United States.
“During the meeting, the President emphasised two important matters,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a statement in Jakarta.
The first was to ensure that every position taken by Indonesia in economic negotiations with any country delivers the greatest benefit to the national interest.
The most immediate focus, Teddy said, is preparation for economic negotiations with the United States, which are set to commence in the near future.
“In particular, the near-term engagement with the United States must yield the best and most advantageous outcomes for Indonesia,” he said.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy, the President wants every negotiation process to drive increased domestic industrial productivity whilst simultaneously strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global industrial supply chain.
The second point, Teddy said, is that economic cooperation must not only serve short-term purposes but also strengthen the foundations of national industry.
He added that the President affirmed that every economic policy adopted by the government must deliver concrete benefits for Indonesia without delay.
These directives serve as guidance for ministers in formulating strategic measures that are swift, measurable, and have a direct impact on national economic growth.
