Growth in national travel and business activity is driving demand for accommodation with increasingly diverse needs. In January–June 2026, foreign tourist arrivals reached 7.45 million, up 5.71% from the same period the previous year, while 630.41 million domestic tourist trips were recorded during the first half of 2026.

Amid this development, Archipelago Hotels is strengthening its business diversification strategy by expanding its hotel portfolio to serve various segments, from business travel and MICE to family holidays, recreation, and transit needs.

The expansion covers five hotel properties in Java and Sumatra, comprising two new hotel openings and three rebrandings: Aston Cimone Hotel & Convention Center, Aston Malang Hotel & Conference Center, Nawana by Alana, fave+ hotel Lampung, and fave+ hotel Pamanukan. The presence of these five properties extends Archipelago’s reach into diverse market segments with different demand characteristics, and strengthens its ability to serve various travel needs in urban destinations, business centres, recreational areas, and intercity travel routes.

The portfolio reflects Archipelago’s approach to building a diversified hospitality business based on market characteristics and guest needs. Aston Cimone Hotel & Convention Center and Aston Malang Hotel & Conference Center, for example, target business travel and MICE with ballroom and meeting room support.

Meanwhile, Nawana by Alana offers a stay experience more oriented towards recreation and family holidays, while fave+ hotel Lampung and fave+ hotel Pamanukan strengthen accommodation options for tourists, families, business travellers, and guests requiring strategic access for transit travel.

With this approach, Archipelago’s expansion focuses not only on increasing the number of properties but also on diversifying sources of demand. Each brand and property is developed to answer different market needs so that the company’s portfolio is able to capture opportunities from various types of travel and destination characteristics.

“The growth of tourism and the accommodation sector creates greater demand for hotels that offer quality while remaining relevant to the character of each destination. Equally important, Indonesian travellers no longer choose hotels based solely on price. Cheap prices can indeed attract attention. However, the real value comes from a combination of quality, comfort, and an experience that feels attractive and distinctive,” said John Flood, Chief Executive Officer of Archipelago Hotels.

“For Archipelago Hotels, this shift is both an opportunity and a responsibility: to develop hotels that meet the practical needs of the market, while providing an experience memorable enough for guests to choose, enjoy, and recommend,” he added.

The diversification strategy is supported by Archipelago’s portfolio covering various segments and brands. Currently, Archipelago Hotels manages more than 45,000 rooms across more than 350 properties spread over more than 200 destinations in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Oceania.

With 13 brands, including Aston, Alana, Huxley, Park Lane, Kamuela, Avanika, Harper, Quest, Four Corners, Neo, fave, Nordic, and Aston Collection, Archipelago has a range of product options that can be tailored to destination characteristics, guest needs, and different service levels.

Based in Jakarta, Archipelago Hotels develops its hospitality business through an asset-light approach, technology, and strong operational governance. This strategy enables the company to expand its reach while maintaining flexibility in serving various market segments, both domestic and international.

As travel in Indonesia continues to grow, Archipelago Hotels continues to leverage portfolio diversification to reach more needs, from business meetings and MICE activities to family holidays, recreation, and transit, and to strengthen its position as one of the most diverse hotel groups in the region.
