Accident During Eid Return Journey: Report First, Claim Can Follow
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Eid al-Fitr homecoming journeys are often accompanied by various road risks, including minor accidents such as being sideswiped. However, many travellers choose to postpone reporting to focus on continuing their trip. In fact, reporting the incident can still be done without needing to handle the claim on the spot immediately. “Okay, I have the data. But perhaps that’s further along. Usually, there is a slight increase. But in my opinion, it’s relative,” said Iwan in response to Kompas.com last weekend in Jakarta. “Because during Eid or this homecoming period, people tend to delay it first (reporting). They let the scrape be. Only after the homecoming is done, everything settled, then they report,” said Iwan. Iwan stated that reporting should still be done as soon as possible, even though the claim process or vehicle repairs can be postponed until the traveller returns to their home city. “But actually, for reporting regarding those conditions, all kinds of accidents, just report it, it’s fine. Waiting for the claim or repairs until returning to Jakarta, that’s also fine,” he said. According to him, reporting should be done first so that the incident is recorded by the insurance party. He also suggested that travellers document the vehicle’s condition as initial evidence. “Just take photos, the important thing is to report, and we can actually do the claim survey virtually as well,” said Iwan. “So you don’t have to come to the branch or our partner garages. It can be done online,” he added. Travellers do not need to worry about handling claims in the middle of the journey. The most important thing is that the report has been submitted so that the subsequent process can still proceed after returning from their hometown.
