Access to Quality Education Remains a Challenge in Regions; PetroChina Expands Support for Youth
Efforts to improve the quality of human resources in regional areas still face various challenges, ranging from limited educational facilities to restricted access to competency development programmes. To support the strengthening of the education sector, PetroChina International Jabung Ltd is implementing several empowerment programmes targeting students, educators, and the younger generation in Tanjung Jabung Barat and Tanjung Jabung Timur Regencies, Jambi.
These programmes are part of the company’s 202/2026 community development plan, which includes increasing the capacity of educators, providing oil and gas vocational scholarships, developing youth leadership, and providing educational facilities in schools.
One of the implemented programmes is SAHABAT (Sarana Hadapi Belajar Aktif dan Berprestasi), which focuses on strengthening digital technology-based leadership capacity for prospective school principals. A total of 60 participants from Tanjung Jabung Barat and Tanjung Jabung Timur Regencies participated in the programme through collaboration with Jambi University and the Jambi Province Teacher and Education Personnel Centre (BGTK).
In addition to strengthening educator capacity, PetroChina is also providing opportunities for local youths to participate in the PEM Akamigas Palembang Scholarship Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year. This Diploma III vocational education programme covers majors in Oil and Gas Laboratory Analysis Engineering, Oil and Gas Processing Engineering, and Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Engineering.
The programme is expected to broaden educational access while preparing a skilled workforce that meets the needs of the national energy industry.
In developing youth capacity, PetroChina, alongside SKK Migas and the Bina Antarbudaya Foundation, is supporting the implementation of the Education and Workshop Programme for the AFS Global Future Leader Network. Through this programme, participants receive training in digital skills, design thinking, and an understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This training is intended to enhance the competitiveness of regional youth, ensuring they possess competencies relevant to global needs and are prepared to become future leaders.
Regarding educational infrastructure, PetroChina has distributed 1,000 sets of student desks and chairs, with 500 sets allocated to Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency and 500 sets to Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. This educational facility assistance is expected to support a comfortable teaching and learning process and improve the quality of the student learning environment in schools.
Furthermore, in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, PetroChina is developing the PUSTAKA BERKAH programme, which includes the development of Sanggar Bekisah and Senior Citizen Schools through collaboration with Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin State Islamic University Jambi. This community-based programme is part of an effort to expand learning access for various community groups while strengthening literacy culture and the regional educational ecosystem.
Through these various initiatives, the improvement of educational quality is not only focused on students but also encompasses educators, the younger generation, and the general public as part of sustainable human resource development.
