Access to Jurangmangu Station Poorly Lit, Commuter Line Users Call for More Lighting
South Tangerang, Kompas.com - In addition to the damaged roof, a number of users of the Electric Rail (KRL) Commuter Line have also complained about the dim lighting along the pedestrian access to Jurangmangu Station in South Tangerang. One of them is Mariam (25), a pedestrian using the access to Jurangmangu Station. She said that at night the lighting on that access is quite dim. ‘When I pass here at night, the lighting is still not enough, so if it could be lit up again, it would be quite dark to pass here,’ Mariam told Kompas.com at the scene on Thursday (21 May 2026). According to her, several points on the route to Jurangmangu Station look dim due to the limited number of lighting points. ‘At night it’s indeed rather dark, especially in some parts the lights aren’t very bright. So if possible, increase the lighting so it is safer,’ Rizkya said. Previously, residents had also complained about the pedestrian access roof as it was damaged, rusted, and full of holes. However, based on Kompas.com’s observation at the site, the roof is being repaired by two workers. One officer, Yanto (not real name), said the roof repair process had only started today. He explained that the roof damage is suspected to be caused by bamboo trees around the area that have grown too dense, preventing rainwater from draining and causing it to accumulate. ‘Rainwater then does not flow and pools on the spandek, which leads to rust and deterioration,’ Yanto said. He added that the repairs could be completed within one day. They are only replacing the spandek and tidying the bamboo trees that have become overgrown. ‘Replace the spandek but not to cut down the bamboo trees, just tidy them,’ he said. The pedestrian roof serves as access for residents linking the Jurangmangu Station area with the surrounding area of Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ).
