Access to Electricity Remains a Challenge, Poso Residents Receive Free Connections
POSO — Access to electricity remains a challenge for some communities in a number of regions. Yet the availability of energy is a basic need that affects education, economic activity and people’s quality of life. Efforts to broaden access to electrification continue to be made through collaboration between various parties.
One such effort took place in Tegal Rejo village, Poso Kota Utara district, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday (23/7/2026). The Gerakan Kristiani Indonesia Raya (GEKIRA) together with PT PLN (Persero) provided free electricity meter installations for residents who did not yet have an electricity connection.
Yeremias Ndoen, Secretary General of the GEKIRA central board, said there are still people facing limited access to electricity who need support to enjoy this basic service.
“Electricity is not only about lighting, it also concerns children’s education, families’ economic activity, environmental safety and improving people’s quality of life,” said Yeremias.
According to him, providing electricity access is one step towards ensuring that people have equal opportunities to improve their welfare.
Yeremias also commended PT PLN (Persero) for collaborating to bring electricity access to communities. He said expanding energy access requires synergy among various parties so that the benefits of development can be felt more evenly.
“We appreciate PLN, which remains committed to delivering fair and equitable energy to the Indonesian people. Collaborations like this show that development requires joint work between the government, state-owned enterprises, community organisations and all elements of the nation,” he said.
Jimmy Langelo, chair of GEKIRA’s Central Sulawesi regional board, assessed that the presence of electricity will have a direct impact on people’s lives, from supporting children’s studies to opening up more productive business opportunities.
“The presence of electricity in the community will open up more opportunities. Children can study better at night, families can carry out household activities more comfortably, and people have the chance to develop more productive economic activities,” said Jimmy.
Rizal Calvari Marimbo, Director of Generation Management at PT PLN (Persero), said PLN supports various efforts to expand electricity access for underprivileged communities.
“We at PLN fully support the free electricity installation programme for underprivileged communities in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi Province,” said Rizal.
The free electricity installation programme forms part of efforts to broaden electrification access, especially for communities that have not yet obtained adequate electricity connections. The availability of electricity is regarded as an important foundation for improving people’s quality of life while driving economic activity at the household level.
