Access to Education for Children with Special Needs Still Requires Concrete Support
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WEST BANDUNG – Access to education for children with special needs is still considered to require broader support, ranging from educational assistance to supporting learning facilities. This was highlighted when Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) member Rajiv distributed 50 Indonesia Pintar Programme (PIP) scholarships for students at SLB ABC YPLAB in Lembang, West Bandung Regency, on Friday (8/5/2026).
Rajiv stated that education must be accessible to all children without exception, including those with special needs who require greater attention and support in the learning process.
“Education is not just the right of a select few children, but the right of all the nation’s children. This assistance is hoped to alleviate educational needs while boosting the learning motivation of children with special needs,” said Rajiv.
During the event, Rajiv also held discussions with students, teachers, and parents. He assessed that the learning enthusiasm of the children at the special needs school illustrates the importance of inclusive education that provides equal growth opportunities for all children.
The NasDem Party politician from the West Java II electoral district also appreciated the role of parents and teachers in accompanying children with special needs. According to him, the education process does not only depend on the school but also on consistent family support.
“To the parents of the students, you are great parents who continue to accompany, strengthen, and fight for the future of your children with full love and sincerity,” he said.
In addition to the PIP assistance, Rajiv also responded to the school’s facility needs in the form of wheelchairs. He stated that he is ready to help procure five wheelchairs to support students’ learning activities.
According to Rajiv, the state’s presence in inclusive education is not sufficient through policies alone, but also through concrete support so that children with special needs can learn in a safe, comfortable, and equal environment.
