Access for Trailer Trucks in North Jakarta to Be Tightened to Protect Residential Areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department is beginning to regulate the list of routes or road sections that may not be traversed by trailer trucks or container vehicles passing through residential areas.
“We are preparing a list of road sections that will be restricted for heavy vehicles in North Jakarta,” said the Head of the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Rudy Saptari.
He stated that within the next week, his side would prepare a list of roads that heavy vehicles may not pass according to the road class.
After that, he continued, prohibition signs would be installed at residential points.
He said this step is also part of legal mitigation so that the policies taken have a strong basis.
“And if facing potential lawsuits from affected parties,” he said.
He stated that the arrangement of roads that may and may not be passed by heavy vehicles aims to ensure residents feel safe and the environment returns to its function.
Previously, the North Jakarta City Government would regulate the existence of trailer truck or container depots that are still operating in residential areas, thus impacting people’s lives and infrastructure.
“This arrangement is to improve residents’ safety while restoring the function of urban space according to its designation,” said the Deputy Mayor of North Jakarta, Fredy Setiawan, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, the activity of trailer truck depots in housing zones is fundamentally not permitted, especially if it does not comply with zoning regulations and does not have a business permit.
In addition, the existence of depots in the midst of residents’ settlements, besides violating regulations, also disturbs the community, from noise to rapid road infrastructure damage.
Simpang Lima Semper to Koja
The North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department is expanding the locations for restricting operating hours for heavy transport vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over eight tonnes at Simpang Lima Semper as an effort to reduce traffic accident rates in the area.
“Currently, restrictions are already in place on two road sections from Simpang Lima Semper and we plan to add three more road sections.
Heavy transport vehicles are not allowed to operate from the Simpang Lima Semper route to Plumpang up to Pasar Ular and to Koja Jaya at certain hours.
Vehicles with GVW over 8 tonnes are not allowed to pass in the morning from 06.00 WIB to 09.00 WIB and in the evening from 16.00 WIB to 19.00 WIB.
In the near future, three more road sections will be added, namely from Simpang Lima Semper to Tugu bordering Cilincing and to Sukapura. And subsequently from Simpang Lima Semper to Pegangsaan Dua up to Kelapa Gading.
