REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WEST BANDUNG - The waste-to-energy project in Sarimukti, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, will be accelerated. A joint agreement on the Management of Waste into Electricity (PSEL) in the Sarimukti area has been signed by the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofik, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Bandung Mayor M Farhan, Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna, Cimahi Mayor Ngatiyana, West Bandung Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail, Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein, and Cianjur Vice Regent Ramzi.

West Bandung Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail stated that the existence of the PSEL or waste-to-energy in Sarimukti will have a positive impact on the environment and the economy in his region.

“The Sarimukti PSEL is assessed to provide real benefits to the people of West Bandung Regency. A cleaner and healthier environment, with reduced waste accumulation and pollution, and the provision of renewable electricity that supports local needs,” said Jeje when confirmed on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

According to Jeje, the acceleration of the waste-to-energy project to manage waste using environmentally friendly technology is a strategic step that can transform waste into electricity. This concept is an implementation of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 109 of 2025 on the Management of Urban Waste into Renewable Energy Based on Environmentally Friendly Technology.

“In addition, the existence of the PSEL will impact the enhancement of the local economy through job opportunities and added value from waste processing,” said Jeje.

Head of the Regional Landfill/TPST Waste Management UPTD at the West Java Provincial Environment Agency, Arief Perdana, said that the West Java Provincial Government has been tasked with preparing land in the Sarimukti area, which is planned to be adjacent to the current Final Disposal Site (TPAS) still in use. For this land requirement, said Arief, President Prabowo Subianto has instructed relevant ministries to expedite the approval process for borrowing and using the area for the construction of the Sarimukti PSEL.

“Later, we will request a letter from the governor to the Minister of Forestry (Menhut) to immediately issue the approval for borrowing the forest area; we are already in the process. The requirement is around 25 or nearly 26 hectares,” said Arief.

The West Java Provincial Government also must prepare waste as the basic material for processing into electricity. Six regions—Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cianjur Regency, and Purwakarta Regency—have agreed to send their waste to the Sarimukti PSEL. The requirement reaches more than 3,400 tonnes per day.

The West Java Provincial Government also must provide a water source with sufficient capacity. Arief said the Provincial Government will conduct a study for the water source because the existing river conditions near Sarimukti seem insufficient to meet the future waste-to-energy needs.

“Water is something we are still trying to study as our task because the PSEL requires a lot of water, around 1,000 cubic metres per day. Meanwhile, the existing conditions in Sarimukti are limited; the river is small in discharge and will not be sufficient, so there must be a study related to the water source,” said Arief.

As for the construction, the West Java Provincial Government is awaiting certainty from the central government. Arief said the results of yesterday’s joint acceleration agreement for the construction of the Sarimukti PSEL will be brought by the Ministry of Environment to a forum. The construction will be carried out by PT Danantara together with its partners.

“In terms of financing, the construction will be directly covered by Danantara and its partners, so we do not have to spend money. But there is still a process, so my estimate is perhaps by the end of 2026 or early 2027 (construction will begin),” said Arief.
