Accelerating Industrial Revolution Innovation, Indonesia Participates in BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2026

The foreign competition ‘Indonesia BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2026’ has been officially opened, following the success of a similar event held in 2025. This prestigious industrial innovation competition for BRICS countries is once again taking place in Indonesia, signifying the practical implementation phase of innovation cooperation between China and Indonesia under the BRICS Partnership Framework for the New Industrial Revolution. Director of Promotion for East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and Africa at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Cahyo Purnomo, stated that this competition is an iconic practice of Indonesia’s deep participation in BRICS cooperation. “To promote connectivity between local innovations and global resources, while building a high-level platform for innovators from both countries,” Cahyo said in his statement on Thursday, 7 May 2026. This year’s competition is themed ‘BRICS Innovation and Development: Accelerating the New Industrial Revolution’, focusing on four main development tracks in Indonesia: artificial intelligence, green industry, low altitude technology, and energy electronics. Cahyo said that Indonesia is at a crucial stage in accelerating the new industrial revolution and greatly needs advanced technologies and innovative concepts. “These four competition tracks are core areas that are currently Indonesia’s development priorities. Through this competition, Indonesia is expected to unearth more superior local innovation projects, while attracting more technologies and investments from China,” he stated. Deputy Director of the International Economic and Technological Cooperation Centre at China’s MIIT, Zhu Gang, hopes that the competition will unearth more superior innovation projects, promote innovation cooperation between China and Indonesia, and provide a new impetus for the new industrial revolution in BRICS countries. Meanwhile, Director of the International Business Department at China Datang Corporation Limited, Jia Bingjun, conveyed that Indonesia is a country focused on overseas development for China Datang Corporation. “In the future, we will continue to strive to increase the scale of investment in Indonesia, create more jobs for the local community, and train more professionals in the energy sector,” he said.
