Accelerating Digital Payments, 20 Markets in Jakarta Targeted to Switch to QRIS within 3 Months

Perumda Pasar Jaya targets 20 markets in Jakarta to adopt the QRIS payment system within three months to boost digital payments. Managing Director Agus Himawan stated that the company is partnering with several banks to support the implementation of non-cash payments in markets, accelerating the digitalisation of traditional markets. This step aligns with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung’s desire for all markets in Jakarta to use QRIS payment methods. He mentioned that dozens of markets are already implementing QRIS payments. “As of now, there are 60 markets and there are no obstacles in the realisation,” Agus said. Previously, Pramono requested the modernisation of 157 markets in Jakarta, particularly regarding payment systems that must switch to digital payments like QRIS. “I truly hope that the 153 markets in Jakarta can be revitalised and modernised as much as possible, including their payments,” Pramono said during his speech at the groundbreaking of Pasar Gardu Asem and Pasar Kramat Jaya in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026). According to Pramono, using non-cash payments like QRIS will make transactions safer. “The most important and primary thing is with QRIS. For example, with digitalisation, whether using QRIS or others, it will significantly reduce pickpocketing. Because so far, if you want to pickpocket a card, you can’t; the one that’s pickpocketed is definitely cash,” Pramono continued.
