Academics: Suyudi's Appointment as National Police Chief Reflects Prabowo's Leadership Maturity

A Professor of Political Science at the National University and former Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) for the 2014–2016 period, Prof. Yuddy Chrisnandi, believes President Prabowo’s move to select General Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto as the National Police Chief represents a sign of leadership maturity.

“President Prabowo’s choice is clear evidence of decisiveness and selectivity in appointing leaders of strategic state institutions based on measurable track records and achievements,” Yuddy Chrisnandi stated in Jakarta on Friday.

From the perspective of civil-military relations and state power governance, he noted that the President’s decision to propose General Suyudi to the House of Representatives (DPR) via Presidential Letter No. R57/Pres/09/2026, dated 30 September 2026, demonstrates leadership grounded in constitutional legitimacy. As an academic specialising in civil-military relations, he observed that the President is not merely exercising a formal right but is choosing based on clear and measurable performance.

“This is the pattern of leadership expected from a Head of State: firm, selective, and oriented towards the needs of the nation’s institutions,
