Academics Support President Prabowo's Plan to Award State Honours to Danantara Leadership
The plan by President Prabowo Subianto to award state honours to the leadership of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) has received a positive response from academics. The support emerged after the president expressed appreciation for the institution’s success in boosting the performance and contribution of state-owned enterprises (BUMN).
Professor Dr Marihot Manullang, a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Lancang Kuning University in Pekanbaru, expressed his support for the head of state’s move. He said the plan to grant the award represents tangible recognition of professionalism in managing state assets.
“We support it. President Prabowo’s appreciation for Danantara’s leadership is a form of recognition of the hard work and achievements that have been demonstrated. It also sends a message that the management of state assets must be carried out professionally, transparently and oriented towards the national interest,” Professor Marihot said in a statement on Friday (14/8/2026).
Professor Marihot assessed that the state honour is not merely ceremonial, but a symbol that integrity and courage in carrying out transformation are receiving serious attention from the government. He viewed Danantara’s achievements in optimising the performance of state-owned enterprises as a crucial step for national economic stability.
He further emphasised that sound, results-oriented management is the main key to managing state wealth. The award is expected to motivate other institutions to apply similar standards of professionalism.
Earlier, in his State Address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council on Friday (14/8/2026), President Prabowo explicitly praised Danantara’s management. The president highlighted the significant increase in dividends and profits of state-owned enterprises under the agency’s coordination.
“This proves that with common-sense management, with no intention to deceive, our success can come very quickly. Once again, I appreciate the management and leadership of Danantara. I think the Danantara leadership deserves to receive a state honour in this independence day atmosphere,” President Prabowo asserted.
The award is planned to coincide with the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day, as a form of appreciation for dedication in strengthening the domestic investment and economic structure through more efficient state-owned enterprise governance.
