The acceleration of state-owned enterprise (BUMN) transformation through entity consolidation, led by Danantara CEO Rosan P. Roeslani, has received backing from academics. The policy is seen as aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to strengthen national economic competitiveness and build a more efficient and sustainable development foundation. Rosan previously revealed that out of a total of 1,077 BUMN entities, 258 have been successfully consolidated. Approximately 300 other entities are expected to follow in the next phase of consolidation. The consolidation aims to improve efficiency, strengthen governance, and enhance the competitiveness of state-owned companies. With a leaner structure, BUMNs are expected to make faster business decisions and carry out their strategic functions more effectively. Beyond simplifying entities, Danantara is also exploring opportunities to develop new sectors that could become sources of economic growth. Sectors under consideration include tourism, sports events, and the creative industry. These sectors are considered to have significant potential to create new jobs, increase community business activity, and strengthen the national economic cycle. Professor Dr. Marihot Manullang of Lancang Kuning University in Pekanbaru assessed that the BUMN consolidation is a strategic step towards achieving more effective corporate governance. The former rector of Simalungun University stated that simplifying corporate structures can accelerate decision-making and reduce overlapping functions between entities. He appreciated the breakthrough, noting that a leaner and more integrated structure would allow BUMNs to focus more on their business functions and contribute more significantly to the national economy. He also considered the development of tourism, sports, and creative industry sectors relevant to future economic needs, aligning with an economic shift that increasingly relies on innovation and value creation. Similar support was expressed by academic Iswadi from Esa Unggul University, who said the move deserves appreciation and support from all parties as it demonstrates the government’s commitment to comprehensive economic transformation. He noted that the President’s directive, implemented through Danantara’s policies, reflects a long-term vision for building a stronger national economy. Iswadi added that developing new sectors such as the creative industry, tourism, and sports events has a significant multiplier effect on economic growth, capable of driving community business activity, creating jobs, and increasing regional income. The academics hope the BUMN transformation under Danantara will proceed consistently, guided by principles of good governance, transparency, and a focus on delivering added value to society and the national economy. With targeted consolidation, BUMNs are expected to increasingly serve as engines of development and vital instruments in realising a more advanced and competitive Indonesia.
