Academic Applauds National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo's Transformation and Leadership

Associate Professor of Universitas Nasional, Prof. Firdaus Syam, has expressed appreciation for the transformation of the Indonesian National Police under the leadership of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. He made the statement after serving as a respondent at the launch of the book ‘Jend. Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Sang Arsitektur PRESISI Polri’ in Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. “Firstly, we must acknowledge that the changes (transformation) implemented by Mr Listyo Sigit Prabowo have been extensive, such as at the structural and institutional levels, as well as IT-based programmes, facilities and infrastructure,” said Firdaus Syam, quoted on Thursday, 29 June 2026. However, Firdaus noted that this needs to be further strengthened by cultural change, which still attracts public attention. He therefore proposed a cultural transformation within the Bhayangkara corps. “The question is, how do we change this culture? There are two ways. First, through education. How can future police cadets continue the traditions developed or exemplified by Mr Listyo? How can the police become more humanist, independent and professional,” he said. “Second, there needs to be consolidation within the police force. Especially because its functions are public security, protection and law enforcement, the police should not enter other domains that create public perceptions undermining police professionalism,” he continued. Regarding the book, he considered it very important for better understanding the meaning of Polri’s ‘PRESISI’ concept and the figure of the Police Chief himself. “This book, written by Ali Ramadhan, is very meaningful and important for getting closer to the concept of PRESISI, which is strongly attached because it is led directly by Mr Listyo Sigit Prabowo, so inevitably the author also had to explore his figure. The contents of this book are also detailed and thorough in outlining the PRESISI vision, the institution’s problems and the future prospects of Bhayangkara,” he concluded. The book launch was organised by the Forum Civil Society for Police Watch and attended by the book’s author, Ali Ramadhan, and political analyst Boni Hargens, who also wrote the prologue.
